breakfast club: 5 spot

for our breakfast club this weekend, brooke, matt and i hit up the 5 spot on upper queen anne. i've been a few times and usually i stay away because there is always a wait on the weekends. but seeing as we went at ten, i thought our chances were pretty good--but we still probably waited a solid 15 mins haha.

the current theme at the restaurant is 'washington dc' which was a bit perplexing. it's not inherently obvious what the food is going to be like if you ask me. i will say though, they did a great job decorating! they had a paper mache donkey with an elephant behind it with some body parts that moved 'strategically' whenever the doors opened. haha i would say to eat there just to check it out.

turns out that washington dc cuisine meant roast beef hash, smoked sausage from dc, and lemon-ricotta hot cakes smothered in marionberry sauce...right.

i kept it simple and went with the diced ham scram which is really hash browns with a side of ham scram. i've noticed that the last few times i've been. you get a small portion of the actual item you ordered, and then a huge helping of the sides. i can't complain too much because i was still stuffed. the eggs were great but i could've used more green onions :) the hasbrowns were cooked really well and i liked that they kept them simple as opposed to the ones i had at coastal kitchen.

in my picture you can also see the biscuits and gravy that matt had. i had a few bites and it might have to be what i get next time! from reading the description on the menu, it sounded like it was going to be pretty plain but they had actual sausage in the gravy and it was so filling that he struggled to finish the last bite--and he can definitely pack it down!
